Park Seo Joon shared a heartfelt story about how his donation helped save a child battling a brain tumor.
On April 29th, Park posted on social media a handwritten letter from the family of a child who underwent a hematopoietic stem cell transplant thanks to his financial support.
In the letter, the family expressed their gratitude: “Thanks to your generous donation, our child safely underwent a stem cell transplant. We are deeply grateful.”
They described the challenges they faced, writing, “Our child was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January 2024. It was a disease we never imagined would affect us. The diagnosis brought terrifying terms like surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and platelets—not to mention overwhelming medical costs. We were emotionally and financially devastated.”
Recalling the moment they learned a transplant was necessary, they added, “Even now, we shudder remembering how helpless we felt when we heard the treatment’s cost.”
However, Park Seo Joon’s donation enabled them to proceed with the operation. “We felt like the most unfortunate family in the world when we learned of our child’s illness. But now, we’re starting to feel a glimmer of hope after completing the first transplant.”
The family also shared their child’s reaction to learning about Park’s support. “When we told our child that such a famous person had helped us, they were shocked. They said, ‘Did someone that famous really help me?’ and added that once they recover, they want to meet you and thank you in person. They even said they want to become famous too.”
“Thanks to you, our family laughed together for the first time in a long while,” the letter continued. “Your meaningful support has given us hope and courage. We promise to live as a family that gives back and helps others, just like you.”
Sharing the letter on social media, Park Seo Joon responded warmly: “This reminds me to live diligently once again. Let’s meet in good health.”
Park Seo Joon is well-known for his consistent philanthropy. In 2019, he donated 100 million KRW ($70,000) to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association to aid victims of the devastating wildfires in Gangwon Province. In 2020, he contributed another 100 million KRW ($70,000) to support flood victims affected by heavy rains. In 2023, he donated the same amount to the United Nations.
