Jewelry’s Seo In Young is opening up about one of the most turbulent periods of her life. In the debut episode of her new YouTube series, the singer confronted her past by reading malicious comments about herself, and responded with striking honesty.
“Everyone Knew I’d Get Divorced”
Seo In Young, who married in 2023 and divorced just a year later, addressed the public’s cynical reaction to her split. Reading a comment that said her divorce was “expected,” she admitted she understood why people felt that way.
“People actually told me they expected me to get divorced the moment I walked down the aisle,” she shared. “When it finally happened, friends told me, ‘In Young, you’re the only one who didn’t know. Everyone at the wedding saw this coming.’”
She also revealed that she had once planned to retire from entertainment and live a quiet life after marriage. However, she soon realized that stepping away from the spotlight wasn’t right for her.
“I realized I have to be in the spotlight. It’s just who I am,” she said.
Addressing Workplace Harassment Controversies
The episode also revisited the infamous 2017 incident in which Seo In Young was filmed swearing during an overseas shoot. While acknowledging her wrongdoing, she provided context for what she described as her breaking point.
She explained that unexpected production changes forced her to sleep on the floor for 10 hours, followed by a grueling nine-hour wait while she was already physically and emotionally distressed.
Seo In Young clarified that she had been venting to her longtime manager, not the show writer, as previously rumored.
She also firmly denied the viral list of alleged “diva demands,” including claims that she required first-class seating, which contributed to her public backlash at the time.
“I am not that kind of person,” she said, expressing regret that her agency advised her not to respond to the rumors back then.
The Emotional Toll Behind the Hiatus
One of the most emotional moments came when Seo In Young spoke about the impact the controversy and rumors had on her mental health. She explained that her hiatus was not a personal choice but a necessity.
“I had to go to the hospital for both physical and mental pain,” she revealed. “I fell into deep depression and struggled with panic disorder. I didn’t even want to live.”
Despite everything, Seo In Young ended the episode on a hopeful note. Although she described dating as “the hardest thing in the world,” she said she has not given up on finding love.
