Park Na Rae is facing strong reactions after appearing on Disney+’s original variety show Battle of Fates 49 amid ongoing controversy.
Yesterday, the show dropped its first four episodes at once, where Park Na Rae appeared as a panelist known as a “fate messenger.” Ahead of the release, the creators had stated that due to the large-scale survival format, they would not separately edit out any specific cast member.
In the episodes, Park Na Rae joined fellow panelists Jun Hyun Moo, Park Ha Sun, Shindong and Kang Ji Young. Wearing a gold off-shoulder dress with leather gloves and a crown-inspired hair accessory, she stood out with a dramatic look. “I came here feeling excited. Please give me chills,” she said with a bright smile.
Known for her interest in fortune-telling and traditional spiritual readings, Park Na Rae reacted enthusiastically to the contestants’ interpretations, exclaiming “That’s chilling.” Her solo shots and commentary aired without edits.
Following the broadcast, online reaction was swift and divided. One viewer wrote, “You gathered 49 shamans, but none of them could predict Park Na Rae’s future?” Another commented, “The reactions feel over the top. It’s entertaining, but it’s hard to take it as a serious spiritual survival show.” Others, however, praised the format, calling it “refreshing” and “well-produced.”
Park Na Rae was embroiled in controversy last December after two former managers raised allegations including workplace harassment, proxy medical treatment and unpaid expenses. Both sides have filed complaints against each other on charges such as attempted extortion, embezzlement and defamation, and a separate investigation into alleged illegal medical practices is ongoing.
In the wake of the controversy, Park Na Rae stepped down or paused activities on shows including Home Alone and DoReMi Market. She later stated that she would suspend broadcasting activities and refrain from additional statements until legal procedures are concluded.
Battle of Fates 49, a 10-episode survival series featuring 49 fortune-tellers competing in what the show describes as a “divinely inspired” showdown, releases new episodes every Wednesday on Disney+.
