
Legendary South Korean actor Ahn Sung Ki is reportedly in critical condition after suffering cardiac arrest.
The beloved “national actor,” who has been battling blood cancer since 2019, collapsed at his home around 4 PM the previous day according to reports on December 31st. The incident occurred after food became lodged in his throat, leading to cardiac arrest.
He was rushed to a nearby emergency room while receiving CPR and has since been admitted to the intensive care unit. His condition is reportedly critical.
Ahn Sung Ki first publicly revealed his blood cancer diagnosis in a 2022 interview. While he had largely stepped back from acting to focus on his health, audiences were still able to see him on screen last year. He appeared in four films—In the Name of the Son, Cassiopeia, Hansan: Rising Dragon and A Birth—all of which were filmed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. His most recent role was as the Chief Interpreter in the historical film A Birth.
