Lay of EXO has issued an apology after being unable to attend the group’s fan meeting.
On December 14th, Lay shared a message on Chinese social media, explaining, “I had to urgently return to Beijing to attend an important event held at the National Center for the Performing Arts.” He offered his apologies to both fans and fellow members, saying, “I sincerely apologize to everyone who may have been inconvenienced by my absence.”
Lay had originally been scheduled to take part in EXO’s fan meeting, EXO’verse, which was held that day at Inspire Arena in Incheon. However, a last-minute change prevented his participation.

SM Entertainment also addressed the situation, stating, “Due to unavoidable circumstances, Lay will not be able to attend the fan meeting. We ask for your understanding regarding the change in participating members.”
The agency did not disclose specific details behind his absence, though the National Center for the Performing Arts operates under China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, making the decision widely viewed as unavoidable.
Meanwhile, EXO is preparing for the release of a full-length album in the first quarter of next year.
