Kim Ji Won is in discussions to headline Detective Park Mi Ok (literal title), a new series penned by acclaimed screenwriter Jung Seo Kyung.
On October 29th, Kim’s agency HighZium Studio told Starnews, “‘Detective Park Mi Ok’ is one of several projects she has received and is currently reviewing.”
Sports Chosun previously reported that Jung Seo Kyung had delivered an early draft of the script to the actress. The drama is said to be inspired by Park Mi Ok, Korea’s first-ever female detective, bringing her real-life story to the screen.
Jung Seo Kyung has long been recognized for her collaborations with director Park Chan Wook, co-writing films such as Lady Vengeance, I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK, Thirst, The Handmaiden, and Decision to Leave, which garnered international acclaim. She also earned praise for her nuanced storytelling in the TV dramas Mother and Little Women, and most recently penned the Disney+ series Tempest.
If confirmed, Detective Park Mi Ok would mark the first collaboration between Jung Seo Kyung and Kim Ji Won — a pairing that has already sparked major anticipation within the industry.
Following the massive success of Queen of Tears, which peaked at 24.9% nationwide ratings (Nielsen Korea), Kim Ji Won selected Doctor X: The Age of the White Mafia (literal title) as her next project. She is reportedly preparing to begin filming later this year.
