Kim Hieora has opened up about how she endured the difficult period following her school-bullying controversy.
In an interview with Sports Kyunghyang on October 23rd, the actress reflected on both her latest film Savior and the challenges she faced over the past year. “If Choon Seo in ‘Savior’ is someone who fights not to lose what’s been taken from her, I’m more of an observer,” she shared. “I’ve always tried to accept my circumstances. Everyone’s life takes shape for a reason, and I tried to focus on what I could still do within mine.”
She continued, “In the end, the only thing I could do was show who I am through acting. I couldn’t go around explaining myself to everyone one by one, could I? That’s probably why I decided to go to the U.S. I closed out the deposit on my apartment and took that money with me. I just couldn’t stand lying in bed doing nothing—I needed to do something.”
Recalling her time abroad, Kim said, “In the U.S., I studied and took meetings in my clumsy English, and realized, ‘It’s nice having this kind of time.’ It made me stronger. I also saw people going through harder things than me, and it gave me perspective. I used to be someone who only chased dreams forward—now I can finally look around me.”
Kim also spoke about her approach to her role in Savior. “I told the director I didn’t want Choon Seo to completely give up on herself. I wanted her to hold onto something of her own,” she said. “Every line resonated with me—it was a truly grateful experience.”
Savior tells the story of Yeong Beom (Kim Byung Chul) and Sun Hee (Song Ji Hyo), who move to the supposedly blessed village of Obok-ri, only to discover that their “miracle” comes at someone else’s expense. The mystery-occult film opens November 5th in theaters.
