Sulli’s brother is under fire after a tribute post marking the late singer’s sixth death anniversary stirred controversy online.
On October 14th, he shared a post on his personal channel featuring a photo of Sulli along with the caption, “To love is to accept one’s own misfortune. My beloved sister’s memorial day.” The message began as a heartfelt remembrance—but quickly took a turn.
He went on to add, “Commemorating the birthday of Charlie Kirk, a young man who loved America deeply,” followed by a warning that read, “If this post gets attacked, your sacred ground will be shattered. Don’t provoke me.”
The mention of Charlie Kirk, a far-right American activist known for his outspoken support of former president Donald Trump and inflammatory political rhetoric, immediately sparked backlash. Kirk was shot and killed at a political event last month, and his death prompted divided reactions even within the U.S. Some Korean celebrities who had posted tributes to him earlier faced criticism and deleted their posts following public outrage.
Online users expressed frustration that Sulli’s brother invoked a controversial political figure on such a sensitive occasion, writing comments such as: “Don’t drag Sulli into this,” “Why even mention Charlie Kirk at all?” and “It would’ve been better to stay silent.”
Her brother also replied to individuals who refuted Sulli’s similarities, claiming that Kirk was a “real feminist” and outright stating that Sulli’s support did not extend to LGBTQIA+ people. This thought pattern follows the logic of radical feminists, whose views are often anti-LGBT. Many expressed shock and disgust over the post, seemingly comparing the tragedy of Sulli’s passing to Kirk being shot during a debate. Others expressed confusion over her brother’s inclusion of Kirk in a post to commemorate his sister.

not this kind of disrespect surfacing right before her death anniversary. charlie kirk is literally the type of man sulli tried to warn us about — the ones who disguise misogyny as “opinions” and use women’s pain as talking points. https://t.co/W3j8zORO4M
