Taking the stage in a stunning golden dress, an emotional Rosé said, “I can’t believe it. First of all, thank you so much, Bruno. I can’t believe this. Thank you so much for believing in me and helping me. I’m really forever grateful for you.” She then switched to Korean with a smile, adding, “I won an award! BLACKPINK members, I won an award! Thank you always, and I love you.”
It was a huge night for Rosé, who was one of the most-nominated artists with a total of eight nods, trailing only Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, and Kendrick Lamar. Her song “APT.” earned seven of those, including a nomination for ‘Video of the Year’, another historic first for a K-pop artist.
Fellow BLACKPINK member Lisa also had a big win, taking home the Best K-Pop award for her song “Born Again.” This marks Lisa’s second consecutive win in the category and her third VMA trophy overall. In a banner year for the group, all four members, including Jennie and Jisoo, received solo nominations.
The night further solidified K-pop’s global dominance. Other nominees in the Best K-Pop category included aespa’s “Whiplash,” BTS’s Jimin’s “Who,” and Stray Kids’ “Chk Chk Boom.” Global girl group Catzeye also received nods for Best Group and MTV Push Performance of the Year, showcasing the incredible power of K-pop on the world stage.
