Recently, Netflix series Love Untangled has received a lot of mixed reviews. With some fans praising the drama for its realism and nostalgic feels, others can’t look past certain aspects of the cast, scenarios, and overall acting. Can Shin Eun Soo and Gong Myung‘s pure romance be enough to entangle viewers?
Released on the 29th of August, this youth romance story takes place in 1998 when the young and free-spirited Park Se Ri battles with not only love but also her appearance- her curly hair! Can she be herself in front of the new exchange student or does she need to change for the most handsome boy in her school? Her journey of self-discovery and love isn’t grandiose but evokes relatability amongst viewers. After all, we all worry over some part of our appearance and love is no easy thing.
Although the story is simple and compelling, the mixed reviews leave fans wondering how well received the drama actually is and if it’ll fare well rating-wise. Netizens commented, “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen harmless and pure love,” “The characters are so lovely, the emotions of those days when I focused on such trivial things. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a show that made me feel this good and nostalgic”, “I’m 50 years old now, but I’m so excited over the love story, I miss my teenage years.”
Netizens also commented on how accurate the setting was to Korea in the early 90’s away from Seoul. They also complimented the actors for not wearing much makeup and being able to portray those timeless memories so easily.
However, backlash came in the form of viewers claiming the main character was rather obnoxious. “I wish the role was a more similar age group. Maybe because I know the actresses age she feels less like a teenager,” “I couldn’t concentrate at all while watching it because of the acting,” “From a native’s point of view, it’s an awkward dialect,” and “Why did they bother to use a dialect… I can’t watch it because of the awkward dialect.”
