Park Ji Hoon is celebrating a major box office milestone—and sharing a deeply personal story at the same time.

On February 23th, tvN’s You Quiz on the Block dropped a preview clip featuring Park Ji Hoon, who stars in the historical film The King’s Warden. The movie has just surpassed 6 million moviegoers, and in the preview, Park Ji Hoon reflects on the success with his trademark easy charm.

He joked about director Jang Hang Joon’s excitement over the film’s performance, saying the director has been “on cloud nine” and is “basically right on the verge of becoming a master.” He then playfully mimicked the director telling him, “Ji Hoon, don’t get carried away. Stay calm and grounded,” drawing laughs on set.

Park Ji Hoon also shared a warm behind-the-scenes moment with his co-star Yoo Hae Jin. When host Yoo Jae Suk asked if Yoo Hae Jin had taken a liking to him, Park Ji Hoon replied that it was likely because he kept things honest. “Even when he’d say, ‘Come grab a meal after filming,’ I’d just be like, ‘Maybe another time…’ and be upfront about it,” he said.

But the mood shifted when Park Ji Hoon opened up about a personal loss connected to the film. “I filmed this movie thinking about my grandmother,” he said quietly. “She passed away the day after the premiere.”

He added that his grandmother had been living with dementia and no longer recognized him. “I wish I could ask her… If she could appear in my dreams, even just once,” he said, trailing off.

The King’s Warden is set in the year 1457 in Cheongnyeongpo and follows a village leader who chooses exile to save his community, alongside a young deposed king who is also sent into exile. The film is currently performing strongly at the box office, reaching the 6 million mark faster than previous hit historical films like King and the Clown and The Throne.

Park Ji Hoon’s full interview will air on February 25th at 8:45 PM KST.
