
The King’s Warden is officially the top box office hit of 2026 so far, holding firm at No. 1 over the Lunar New Year holiday weekend.
According to the Korean Film Council, the historical drama drew 2,675,454 moviegoers from February 14th through 18th, bringing its total audience to 4,174,928 and continuing its strong theatrical run. The film also set a new record for the highest weekend box office score of 2026 and secured the No. 1 spot across the entire holiday period.

On the 17th alone, the film brought in 661,449 viewers, marking the highest single-day audience during the Lunar New Year holiday since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020. With that, it surpassed 3 million total admissions and officially reached its break-even point.
Audience reactions have been just as strong, with viewers praising both the story and the performances. “A beautifully told slice of history,” one viewer wrote, while another called it “a must-watch that leaves you with a heavy, emotional aftertaste.” Others described it as “a perfectly crafted historical drama with laughter, anger and heartbreak in balance” and “one of the best films of the year.”
The King’s Warden is now playing in theaters.
