Park Bo Gum has been cast in the upcoming historical feature Mongyudowondo (“Dream of Strolling in a Peach Garden”, literal title), taking on the role of Prince Anpyeong.

According to film industry sources on August 14th, the actor will portray the Joseon-era prince at the center of the story. The film is inspired by the real-life 1447 landscape painting of the same name by master artist An Kyon. Commissioned by Prince Anpyeong after a dream in which he visited a utopian “peach blossom land,” the painting is considered a cultural treasure—complete with 23 poems and inscriptions by the prince himself, making it as significant to Korean calligraphy history as it is to art.

The film will explore the turbulent political rivalry between Prince Anpyeong and his brother, Prince Suyang, set against the backdrop of the Gyeyujeongnan—the 1453 coup in which Suyang seized power by killing dozens of loyal officials, including Hwangbo In and Kim Chongso, allies of the young King Danjong. At the heart of the drama is the painting itself, a symbolic counterpoint to Suyang’s ambition.

Jang Hoon, known for Secret Reunion, The Front Line, and the 10-million-ticket blockbuster A Taxi Driver, will direct—marking his first film in eight years. The film is produced by DooDoong Pictures, with Kim Nam Gil cast as Prince Suyang.

Park’s addition to the project caps off a whirlwind year for the star. He sparked the “Yang Gwan Shik” phenomenon with Netflix’s When Life Gives You Tangerines, showcased his hosting skills on the KBS music show The Seasons – Park Bo Gum’s Cantabile, and took on the role of a boxer in JTBC’s Good Boy, showing a completely different side of his acting range. He is also currently on a fan meeting world tour.
