Recently, Omniscient Reader: The Prophet has become a highly anticipated drama. From the stellar casting to the intense storyline, fans eagerly await to see stars like Lee Min Ho, Nana, and even BLACKPINK Jisoo grace the big screen.
A production briefing regarding the film was held at the entrance of Lotte Cinema near Konkuk University in Seoul on June 17th. The actors attended alongside director Kim Byung Woo who explained his thought process behind the roles of the cast members and why he chose them. Since it is BLACKPINK Jisoo’s important acting debut and first time starring in a major film, she quickly became the hottest topic after Kim revealed his answer.
Jisoo plays Lee Ji Hye, a high school student who follows Yoo Joong Hyuk through the chaotic universe of the mysterious novel that becomes reality. She is a sharp-witted high schooler who reveres Yoo Joong Hyuk as her master. “I wanted to portray a character with sharp judgment who adapts well to constantly changing situations and quickly grasps reality,” Jisoo explained.
Kim revealed he chose Jisoo because he “Wanted someone who could work very hard,” and, “When I first met Jisoo, she was very enthusiastic and worked diligently during the pre-reading sessions. Even though there wasn’t much content, she caught my attention during the reading and I believed she could play the part and suited the character. I am very satisfied.”
Jisoo also revealed the slight differences in character portrayals compared to the webtoon. Jisoo stated, “I know that the fans who loved the original work might be worried about these changes after seeing the trailers and photos. However, I think the changes can be fully understood after watching the movie entirely rather than us explaining it.”
