T.O.P is officially hinting at his long-awaited return as a solo artist.
The rapper, who made his grand return as Thanos in Netflix’s global mega-hit series Squid Game Seasons 2—and is waiting for Season 3 release, made waves in a recent interview with Awards Buzz, showcasing his signature witty banter.
When asked “If Thanos actually conquered the world, how do you think he would handle people?” he unleashed his quirky and playful imagination: “First, I’d keep the piggy bank for myself, and just like Thanos originally said, I’d kill half of humanity with my rap.”
His quick wit didn’t stop there. He directly revealed that his music comeback was imminent by saying, “Because, because my solo album dropping soon.”
T.O.P’s return to music is noteworthy for several reasons. He debuted as a BIGBANG member in 2006, earning love for his powerful rap and distinctive character, later showing his unique path as a solo artist. However, in 2016, he received a 10-month prison sentence with a 2-year suspended sentence for marijuana use charges. He later ended his exclusive contract with YG Entertainment in 2021, officially stepping away from BIGBANG and declaring a break from the entertainment industry.
Then last year, he returned with a bang, playing a drug-addicted rapper named Thanos in Squid Game 2. Even then, he was noticeably absent from the Netflix showcase and press conference events.
But with this upcoming solo album, all eyes are once again on T.O.P’s next move—especially with the global spotlight of Squid Game Season 3 backing him. Earlier in January, he remained cautious about discussing his return, but his latest comments suggest he’s ready to reclaim the mic.
