Netflix has officially announced the production of its new original series Notes from the Last Row, confirming an all-star cast that includes Choi Min Sik, Choi Hyun Wook, Huh Joon Ho, Kim Yun Jin, and Jin Kyung.
Based on the acclaimed Spanish play El Chico de la última fila, this tense literary drama centers on Heo Mun Oh (Choi Min Sik), a sharp-tongued literature professor and failed novelist who finds himself drawn to the raw talent of Lee Kang (Choi Hyun Wook), a mysterious engineering student who always sits in the last row of his lecture hall.
The series is helmed by director Kim Kyu Tae, known for Our Blues and Netflix’s The Trunk, with the script penned by Jang Myung Woo, who also worked on the adaptation of The Little Mermaid. Production is handled by Kakao Entertainment and GTist.

Choi Min Sik portrays Heo Mun Oh, a once-promising writer whose bitter disappointment over his failed career has turned him into a notoriously irritable professor. He hides his insecurities and inferiority complex behind scathing critiques—until he stumbles upon Lee Kang’s writing, which sparks a dangerous fascination.
Choi Hyun Wook takes on the role of Lee Kang, a gifted writer despite being an engineering major. Quietly seated in the back row, his talent catches the eye of Heo Mun Oh—who becomes increasingly obsessed with his words, pulling Lee Kang into a secretive mentorship that begins to spiral out of control.
Huh Joon Ho plays Kim Soo Hoon, a successful novelist and Mun Oh’s college peer. Confident and composed, Soo Hoon is a figure of envy and unresolved rivalry for Mun Oh. Kim Yun Jin stars as Soo Hoon’s elegant wife, Ahn Eun Joo, adding another layer of intrigue to the complex character dynamics. Jin Kyung completes the core cast as Jo Hyun Sook, Mun Oh’s wife and a therapist.
