Red Velvet’s Wendy and Yeri have officially ended their exclusive contracts with SM Entertainment—the agency that launched their careers—but both artists will continue group activities with the rest of the team.
On April 4th, SM Entertainment released a statement confirming the news: “Our exclusive contracts with Wendy and Yeri have come to an end. It has been a great joy for us to work with them as part of Red Velvet and as solo artists.”
The agency continued, “We’ll sincerely cherish every moment we’ve shared and wholeheartedly support Wendy and Yeri in their new journeys.”
Importantly, SM also clarified that both of them will remain active members of Red Velvet and will continue to participate in group promotions, asking fans to look forward to the group’s next chapter.
“We are deeply grateful for all the love shown to Wendy and Yeri over the years,” SM added, “and we hope fans will warmly support the exciting new paths they are about to take.”
Red Velvet, who debuted with Happiness on August 1st, 2014, recently marked their 10th anniversary. Alongside TWICE and BLACKPINK, they were often grouped as part of the “TReVel” trifecta—representing the third generation of K-pop girl groups. While their international chart presence has been more modest compared to the other two, Red Velvet has carved out a unique identity with a bold musical spectrum, winning themselves a deeply devoted fanbase.
