IU dismissed reports of her dropping out of her upcoming drama 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife as nothing more than a misunderstanding.
The singer was asked about the rumors of her departure from 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife during an interview with Sports Kyunghyang on April 2nd. She firmly denied the rumors, saying, “I was so shocked. I even met with the director yesterday, and we were just about to start discussing things when I saw the news about me leaving the cast. I was completely baffled.”
She added, “Sometimes there’s smoke without fire in this industry, but that article was written with such certainty that I even thought, ‘Wait, was I kicked out?’ But it was just a misunderstanding. As far as I know, Byun Woo Seok isn’t leaving either.”
IU continued, “Byun Woo Seok and I talked about working hard together. I also know that he recently met with the director to discuss the project. I feel a mix of excitement and pressure. This character is completely different from Ae Soon and Geum Myung, so my heart is racing.”
21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife is a romance drama set in an alternate modern-day Korea under a constitutional monarchy. It follows Sung Hee Joo (played by IU), a wealthy woman frustrated by her status as a mere “commoner,” and Prince Lee An (played by Byun Woo Seok), a royal who is unable to have anything for himself , despite his title. The story revolves around their struggle to break free from societal constraints.
