Successful rising actor Choo Young Woo has been receiving consistent praise for his roles in hit dramas such as ‘The Tale of Lady Ok’ and now his current series ‘The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call’ on Netflix.
However, with popularity comes the risk of running into controversy and Choo Young Woo has found himself in hot water due to his Instagram following.
Fans began investigating the actor more carefully and some snooped through his personal Instagram following list. To the surprise of many, Choo Young Woo was revealed to be following Jung Sang Soo on Instagram, a rapper known for controversial scandals such as multiple DUI’s, disturbing the peace, assault while intoxicated, altercation with police officers, and sexual harassment of specific figures in his rap lyrics. He also outwardly supports the war-right civic activism group New Men’s Solidarity, a pro-Yoon Seok Yeol (the impeached president) and anti-feminist group. Fans wondered if he was actually close with such a loose cannon or even idealized the values of such groups.
It continued to get worse. The actor was also notably following sexual BJ’s from AfreecaTV. Many fans said it was quite the turn off to discover he followed distasteful content from broadcasters like Billy and KUBIN, who are infamous for posting solely provocative content such as “Things I would put down my pants,” “What was unknowingly put in my panties while I slept?” and “I’ll teach you how to have s*x with just skinship,” etc.
After the controversy became more viral, it was noted that Choo Young Woo began doing a social media cleanse and removing multiple accounts he was interested in from his following list. He didn’t address the situation personally and his agency hasn’t commented either. Netizens found him to be disgusting and appalling stating, “I thought there was finally a rising male actor to pay attention to but… after this, I’m unsure” “This makes him look cheap. He is just another Korean man…” “Wow and now that he’s starting to get famous, he starts cleaning out his following list at the last minute.
