Even after the grand finale, tvN’s Queen of Tears, written by Park Ji Eun and directed by Jang Young Woo and Kim Hee Won, continues to captivate global audiences, rising to the second position in Netflix’s Top 10 Non-English Series for the week of April 22nd to April 28th. The show moved up from third place last week.

Since its premiere on March 9th, Queen of Tears has amassed a total of 373.2 million viewing hours, with the 400 million hour mark fast approaching. Although its domestic broadcast has concluded, its popularity on OTT platforms shows no signs of waning.

The series has also received critical acclaim on international review sites. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts an impressive audience score of 93%, while on IMDb, it holds a rating of 8.4. Viewers have praised it for its “intense performances and an emotionally gripping rollercoaster,” and for “excellently exploring themes of love, loss, redemption, and the human spirit.”

The response in Japan has been equally enthusiastic, with the show scoring a 4.5 out of 5 on Filmarks, Japan’s largest content review site. Comments on the site include, “I haven’t looked forward to a drama this much in a long time” and “I will definitely watch this again.”

U.S. entertainment media outlet Screen Rant recently analyzed the drama’s success in an article titled “8 Reasons Why ‘Queen of Tears’ Has Achieved So Much Success.” Screen Rant credits “writer Park Ji Eun’s scripts, fairytale-like cinematography elevates the intense love story to new heights, exceptional performances by its cast” as key factors behind the drama’s overwhelming success.
