Song Joong Ki revealed his British wife Katy Louise Saunders’ reaction to his Netflix movie My Name Is Loh Kiwan.
Released on March 1st, My Name Is Loh Kiwan tells the story of a North Korean defector Loh Kiwan (played by Song Joong Ki) who struggles to survive after crossing over to Belgium and gaining refugee status.
Loh Kiwan lived with his mother (Kim Sung Ryung) in China but was forced to flee to Belgium after losing his mother in an unexpected accident. There, he meets Korean-Belgian Marie (Choi Sung Eun) and experiences a change in his life.
“I was most curious about how my wife would react. As you know, she is not Korean. I was worried if she would understand the setting of escaping from North Korea to China and then to Belgium, but she seemed to be touched after watching the movie. She first said, ‘You put a lot into this,’ and she said, ‘It felt comforting.’ It almost makes me embarrassed to say it,” he chuckled softly as he explained.
The film explores themes of healing through love and friendship, as Loh Kiwan and Marie navigate their pasts. The actor shared that during a recent audience Q&A, many viewers expressed a similar sense of being “healed” by the film, which he described as something he takes immense pride in.
