On a recent episode of JTBC’s Actors’ Association, Daniel Henney met up with Panicko star Noh Sang Hyun and delighted fans by sharing the heartwarming story of how he met his wife, Ru Kumagai, leading up to their marriage in 2023.
Henney began, “Long time ago, I was in a relationship. We broke up. You know how you feel, ‘I’m finished. I’m never another woman. I’m done.’ I just drank beer. Then I went to this restaurant. I was so pissed off. And she was the hostess.”
Their conversations often revolved around books, with Henney noting, “She was always reading.” This prompted laughter in the studio as comedian Jang Do Yeon joked, “This is why we should read. Even if we don’t, we should at least carry one with us,”
Discovering that Kumagai hadn’t read any works by his favorite author, Haruki Murakami, Henney decided to gift her the entire collection. “I bought all Murakami’s books and gave them to her. She read all the books. Then she would sit with me when I would eat and just talk. We just started like that. It was pure,” Henney reminisced.
Reflecting on his journey to finding love, Henney shared, “Ten years ago, I didn’t know if I’d ever get married. I’m so happy now,” adding, “Our best days are on Sundays—watch a movie, get a pizza, and just lay on the couch together. That’s the best,” earning envy from the cast.
