RIIZE, the first boy group launched by SM Entertainment in seven years, has made a dazzling debut in 2023 and has now been selected as the most anticipated artist/group of 2024 by music experts.
News1 recently surveyed music experts on the “Most Anticipated Artist of 2024.” A total of 32 professionals from various labels participated in the survey, with RIIZE securing the top spot with 5 votes.
Debuting on September 4th, RIIZE is a seven-member boy group introduced by SM Entertainment. This marks the first group produced by SM since Lee Soo Man stepped down and the company began its “SM 3.0” era. RIIZE gained considerable attention, and their debut single, Get A Guitar, recorded an impressive initial sales volume of 1,016,849 copies, catapulting them to “million-seller” status.
Additionally, “Get A Guitar” achieved notable rankings on Melon’s daily, weekly, and monthly charts and surpassed 30 million streams on Spotify. It also topped iTunes Top Song charts in over 20 regions and Apple Music’s Top 20 Popular Songs in South Korea for October. The song also secured consecutive first-place positions on China’s QQ Music’s K-pop weekly chart.
RIIZE has also caught the attention of international media outlets like Billboard, Rolling Stone, Variety, Forbes, and Bloomberg. Their track “Get A Guitar” was featured on Grammy’s “15 K-Pop Songs That Took 2023 By Storm,” and “Memories,” another track from the album, was listed in NME’s “The 25 best K-pop songs of 2023.”
Their success led to winning the Rookie of the Year award at the 2023 Melon Music Awards and the Favorite New Artist award at the 2023 MAMA.
One insider, who voted for RIIZE, commented, “They started off with the right buzz and music, and we expect them to show significant activities and results in the market next year.”
Other industry professionals remarked, “They debuted this year but were as notable as NewJeans,” “With solid skills, visuals, and SM’s diverse and superior musical production, the team’s future activities are highly anticipated,” and “The success of this group could change the landscape of the music industry.”
In the survey, NewJeans and Stray Kids followed RIIZE with 4 votes each, securing joint second place. Additionally, BABYMONSTER and IVE each received 2 votes.
