BLACKPINK’s Jennie might walk on the Cannes red carpet as an actress. Interest is growing over whether she will attend the festival amidst her busy world tour schedule.

On the 13th, the Cannes Film Festival office held a press conference in Paris, France, announcing the official invited works for the 76th Cannes Film Festival. Along with director Kim Jee Woon’s Cobweb, Sam Levinson’s The Idol was also listed in the non-competitive section.

The Idol, scheduled to air on HBO in America this year, is a work produced by singer Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd. The story revolves around the relationships and music industry surrounding an up-and-coming pop idol, promising provocative fun. The cast includes global artists such as The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp (Johnny Depp’s daughter), Troye Sivan, and BLACKPINK’s Jennie. Jennie’s role has not yet been revealed.

So will actress Jennie be seen at the Cannes Film Festival? YG Entertainment told DongA, “It’s true that she’s been invited, but her attendance is undecided,” which is understandable as BLACKPINK is currently on the largest-scale K-pop girl group world tour, “BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK].” Additional concerts will be held in Macau on May 20th and 21st and encore concerts in Bangkok on May 27th and 28th. The 76th Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 16th to 27th in Cannes, France.
