The Best New Actor award nominees in the TV category for the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards include a diverse range of actors from different age groups, from those born in 1964 to those born in the 2000s. All ten display exceptional acting skills, leaving no doubt about their talent. So, the question is, who will win the trophy?

The Best New Actor Nominees

From a lackluster debut in 2017’s Fight for My Way, Kim Gun Woo had almost given up on acting. But fate had other plans for him, as he landed the role of the school bully in Netflix’s The Glory. With his intense portrayal of the villain, Kim left an indelible mark on viewers’ minds and proved his mettle as an actor.

Kim Min Ho, who starred in ENA’s Recruit, debuted in 2013 with tvN’s Monstar. He portrayed the character of Park Min Seok, a naive rookie soldier who dreams of a normal military life despite being the son of a division commander. He even went the extra mile and gained weight for the role, adding to the authenticity of his performance.

Moon Sang Min emerged as a breakout star on Under the Queen’s Umbrella, receiving widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Grand Prince Sung Nam. Not only did he impress audiences with his warm appearance, tall height, and attractive voice, but he also displayed exceptional acting talent, further solidifying his rising status in the entertainment industry.

Joo Jong Hyuk gained attention for his role as Tactician Kwon Min Woo in drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo. He made his debut in the 2015 film Mare, and after eight years, he is finally receiving the recognition he deserves as a nominee for the rookie award.

Hong Kyung has been nominated for Best New Actor in the TV category for his role as Oh Bum Seok in the drama series Weak Hero Class 1. He previously won the New Actor Award at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards for his performance in the movie Innocence, and now all eyes are on whether he will achieve a double win in both the movie and TV categories.

Kim Hieora, a nominee for the Best New Actress award for her role in The Glory, is an actress who is well-versed in stage performances, having debuted in the musical Jack the Ripper in 2009. After venturing into the drama field and reaching her third year in the industry, she left a strong impression in The Glory with her bone-chilling portrayal of a drug addict.

Roh Yoon Seo, a Best New Actress nominee for her role in Crash Course in Romance, is a rising star who debuted in the 2021 film Our Blues. With her innocent appearance and solid acting skills, she quickly gained recognition as a rising star in the industry.

Lee Kyung Sung received critical acclaim for her performance in My Liberation Notes, with some even saying that she “brought a real middle-aged woman from the countryside of Sanpo-ri” to life on screen. As a veteran actress with 37 years of experience in the industry, she has mainly worked on theater productions, and My Liberation Notes marks her first foray into TV dramas.

Joo Hyun Young, who has been nominated for her role in the drama series Extraordinary Attorney Woo, was the winner of the Best Female Entertainer award in the TV category at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards last year. This year, she has been nominated for the Best Female Entertainer award again and has also been nominated for the Best New Actress award.

Ha Yoon Kyeong is another actress who has left a strong impression on viewers through her role in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, just like Joo Hyun Young. She has also been nominated in two categories, including the Best New Actress award for her performance in the film Gyeong-ah’s Daughter.

The 59th Baeksang Arts Awards will be held on April 28th.
