Who’s getting paid how much?
Recently, YouTuber Ahn Jin Yong posted a new video about the highest-paid actors of 2023.
In the video, the journalist shared that “the era of 300 million won (about $245,000) in drama appearance fee has begun” and named three stars, Song Joong Ki, Lee Jong Suk, and Ji Chang Wook, who got paid 300 million won in their drama. He continued, “If they star in a 16-part project, they’ll make 5 billion won (about $4 million).” According to Ahn, Lee Min Ho and Kim Soo Hyun got the incentive of 300 million won.
Adding that actors tend to get paid more than actresses, Ahn named the two highest-paid actresses as Jun Ji Hyun and Song Hye Kyo. “Jun Ji Hyun and Song Hye Kyo get paid 200 million won (about $163,000) per episode. Song Hye Kyo became a global star with The Glory, so she might get more in her next project.”
The next on his list was the appearance fee for OTT dramas in 2023. Ahn said, “OTT pays more than TV series,” and the example he gave was Kim Soo Hyun, who bagged 500 million won (about $407,000) per episode in his Coupang Play series One Ordinary Day.
Then there’s Lee Jung Jae, whom, according to Ahn, can get paid up to 1 billion won (about $815,000) with the success of Squid Game. “He didn’t receive sufficient compensation such as incentives. Netflix has to compensate him for (the success of) season 1 (of Squid Game).”
