TIME announced its “Next Generation Leaders 2022” on the 14th, and Lee Yoo Mi was the only Korean actress to be named on the list. “Squid Game Made Her a Star. Now Lee You-mi Is Forging Her Own Path,” TIME introduced.

Lee Yoo Mi expressed her desire through TIME, “Instead of thinking of Lee You Mi as a person with a certain personality, I hope people will remember me as a good actor and want to see my work, saying ‘I really want to see that piece if actor Lee You Mi is in it.'”

Lee Yoo Mi rose to fame by playing Ji Young with an unfortunate story in Netflix’s juggernaut Squid Game. With this character, she became the first Asian/Korean actress to win an Emmy for acting when she picked up the trophy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

With increasing fame, the actress is trying to stay grounded. “The global recognition further strengthened my mindset,” she said, “that no matter how things change around me, I should remain who I am.”

Currently, she’s playing the lead role in tvN’s Mental Coach Jegal, and her passion is continued on the big screen. Her new movie New Normal was officially invited to the 66th London International Film Festival, the 38th Warsaw International Film Festival, and the 36th Leeds International Film Festival.
