6/45 has captivated both the domestic and Vietnamese audience. The comedy movie tells the story of the negotiations that ensue between North Korean and South Korean soldiers after a $4.2 million winning lottery ticket accidentally flies across the Military Demarcation Line from South Korea into North Korea.
Released on September 23rd, 6/45 topped the domestic box office in Vietnam for three consecutive days, knocking Thai movie Love Destiny and Hollywood film Avatar off the top spot, despite having played in fewer theaters. As of the 25th, the flick garnered a cumulative audience of 300,000 and pulled in $1.15 million, which is the highest opening score for a Korean film ever released in Vietnam. If this trend continues, the film is projected to become the biggest box office hit of all Korean counterparts ever released in the country. The film is expected to surpass 2 million people in audience in Korean theaters, with good word of mouth quickly spreading.
Jeong Tae Sun, head of CJ HK Entertainment who was in charge of distributing the movie in Vietnam, said, “It became a box office success in Vietnam as many locals liked its entertaining and touching story. “
Meanwhile, 6/45 is set to be released in Taiwan on September 30th.
