Kris Wu may face a heavy prison sentence for alleged raping of minors.
According to Chinese media Global Times, Beijing-based lawyer Wu Fatian explained, “Although Kris Wu is holding Canadian nationality, according to the principle of territorial jurisdiction, China’s laws apply to anyone who commits a crime in China.”
The Chinese law states that a person who commits a crime of rape would be sentenced to 3 to 10 years imprisonment and even face the death penalty if the victim is a minor.
The Chinese media reported that Wu is likely to be sentenced to 10 years in prison if proven guilty. After serving his sentence in China, Wu is expected to be deported from the country.
China’s state media stressed that “Money and resources would never be a license to ensure that you can do whatever you want,” “No matter how famous one is, there is no immunity. Whoever breaks the law will be punished by the law.” And they commented, “It also teaches society a very solid lesson that everyone is equal before the law.”
Kris will most likely face the rape charges considering the fact that the Ministry of Public Security of China has rarely cleared of the charges against the detained suspects.
