BoA Talks About Her Struggles as a Teen Star in Japan on ‘Archive K’

BoA tells the story of when she first went to Japan on The Star of Legends: Archive K.

The episode of SBS’s Archive K aired on the 7th deals with the history of K-Pop, as it established itself as a form of culture across the world.

The first of two episodes of ‘Sea-Crossing K-Pop’ (literal title) will be presenting efforts and vivid stories of early Korean Wave stars who paved the way for K-Pop to rise to the level it is at now.

In a recent shoot, BoA introduced a personal story of her first experience when she went to Japan to debut there. She confessed how she struggled upon her arrival in Japan at the young age of 14, as she could not exchange any money. “The Japanese airport did not exchange with Korean Wons at the time,” she said, “so I asked the nicest-looking passenger I went on the plane with to exchange 30k Won with me.”

Furthermore, BoA talked of her difficulties, complaining that Japanese textbooks she studied in Korea were of little use when she actually went to Japan. MCs of the show was seen to laugh and sympathize along with the artist.

Meanwhile, The Star of Legends: Archive K airs every Sunday at 11.05 p.m. KST.
