Kingdom: Ashin of the North dropped the very first still photo of Jun Ji Hyun.
At the Netflix content roadshow “See What’s Next Korea 2021,” which took place on February 25, screenwriter Kim Eun Hee and director Kim Sung Hoon introduced their new project, Kingdom: Ashin of the North.
About this special episode of Netflix’s Kingdom series, Kim Eun Hee shared, “It revolves around one of the key figures in the Kingdom series, Ashin. When talking about Ashin, the story of Saengsacho (the herb of the undead) is inevitable. I thought it would be more interesting if the story came out as a special episode form than as a part of season 3.”
Kim Sung Hoon added, “If Kingdom 1 was the cornerstone of the “Kingdom” world, this new special episode will act as a steppingstone to Kingdom 3 and maybe beyond that.”
“I had these thoughts about Saengsacho from the beginning, and if season 1 and 2 didn’t receive such praises, these thoughts would have been kept within me. But thanks to all the supports, I gained the energy to produce it (as a special episode,” said Kim Eun Hee.
Regarding Ashin, played by Jun Ji Hyun, Kim Eun Hee introduced, “I think you can think of her as the one who is closet to the secrets of Saengsacho.”
Director Kim also raised more anticipations when he said, “Jun Ji Hyun is the top star who received much love for the past 20 years. After the first shooting in Jeju Island, the entire staff and I immediately realized why she was loved for two whole decades.”
