A lively soul-swap drama is on its way.
Mr. Queen, which will premiere on Dec 12, starts when the soul of Jang Bong Hwan, a man who lives in present-day Korea, finds its way into the body of Queen Kim So Yong in the Joseon period after getting involved in an accident.
It’s a historical-comedy (fusion sageuk) fantasy drama presented by Hwarang, The King’s Face and The Bridal Mask director Yoon Sung Shik, Doctor Prisoner writer Park Kye Ok and Lovers of Six Years writer Choi Ah Il. Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hyun become “show window couple” queen Kim So Yong and king Cheol Jong and show a relationship that goes back and forth between comradeship and romance. Bae Jong Ok, Kim Tae Woo, Seol In Ah, Yoo Min Kyu, Na In Woo and Kim In Kwon will also appear.
Shin Hye Sun – Kim So Yong
Dreaming about becoming the queen for her family her whole life, she has finally walked into the palace. She did her best to do her duty, but there is always Hwa Jin next to her finance Cheol Jong. The only people she can open her heart to are Court Lady Choi and Hong Yeon. So Yong actually fell in love with Cheol Jong at first sight, so she thought her marriage would be a marriage of love rather than a marriage of convenience. Perhaps because of the frustrating reality, she started to show a fussy temperament, winning the title of “palace witch” that everyone runs away from. But then one day, Bong Hwan’s soul enters her body and suddenly changes overnight, tuning the palace upside down with words and actions that no one in the palace has heard of.
(cameo) Choi Jin Hyuk – Jang Bong Hwan
He is a chef at the President’s Blue House in the modern days. He doesn’t give a damn about what others think and often goes out of control, but deep down, he is actually a scaredy-cat who hates being hurt. After getting involved in an accident, his soul enters the body of lonely Kim So Yong. Soon, he shares comradeship with Cheol Jong and becomes a “show window couple.”
Kim Jung Hyun – King Cheol Jong
Outwardly, he seems like a gentle and easygoing figurehead. People snort at him, saying that he is terrified of getting killed just like his family. But in fact, what he fears the most is becoming an incompetent king as they wish and dies with nothing. So inwardly, he prepares for reformation. He is a complex character with the tenacity of not kneeling down in front of a harsh fate. He is also excellent at playing the role of a show window couple, enough to make Bong Hwan (inside So Young’s body) retch.
Seol In Ah – Jo Hwa Jin
Cheol Jong fatefully encountered her right before he was exiled to Ganghwa-do, and she became his first love. She used to be an innocent person who only knew about love, but she slowly blackens when she becomes his concubine and tries to keep his love.
Na In Woo – Kim Byung In
He was adopted by Kim Jwa Geun as a child and became So Yong’s cousin. He always had his eyes on her, and when the relationship between So Yong and Cheol Jong turns friendly, he is engulfed by jealousy.
