Netflix has dropped the curtain on the eagerly anticipated casting news for season 2 of its juggernaut Squid Game.
The global streaming giant’s fan event, Tudum, was successfully hosted in the early hours of Sunday, June 18th.
Having its first face-to-face with fans in three years, Tudum concluded triumphantly in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The star-studded lineup included big names such as Chris Hemsworth, Gal Gadot, and Henry Cavill, alongside top-notch creators like Zack Snyder, the director of the sci-fi epic Rebel Moon. Exciting announcements about popular comeback shows and tantalizing teasers of new productions thrilled fans both at the event and those tuning in online.
Special highlights included exclusive clips from upcoming Korean productions such as Celebrity, D.P. Season 2, Mask Girl, A Time Called You, Song of the Bandits, Ballerina, Doona!, Daily Dose of Sunshine, Believer 2, Sweet Home Season 2, and Gyeongseong Creature. Then the reveal of the cast for season 2 of Squid Game, a show that had captivated audiences worldwide, caused quite a stir at the event.
The surprise reveal included the return of season 1 favorites such as Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Jun, and Gong Yoo. The introduction of new participants, Yim Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, and Yang Dong Geun, further whipped up the fervor among viewers worldwide eagerly awaiting the return of Squid Game.
Lee Jung Jae, who seized the Best Actor award at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards for his performance in season 1 of Squid Game, is set to reprise his role as Seong Gi Hun. Joining him is Lee Byung Hun, who showed a commanding portrayal of the enigmatic Front Man, and Wi Ha Jun, who played Hwang Jun Ho, a man hellbent on uncovering his brother’s secrets. Fans can also look forward to the return of Gong Yoo, the elusive and mysterious salesman, aka the Dakji Man.
In an exciting reveal, Netflix also unveiled a lineup of fresh faces set to join the fray for season 2. Yim Si Wan, known for his dynamic range spanning both virtuous and villainous roles, and Kang Ha Neul, adored by many for his role in the drama When the Camellia Blooms, have both confirmed their participation. Alongside them, The Glory star Park Sung Hoon and Yaksha: Ruthless Operations actor Yang Dong Geun will also star in the series.
As fans around the globe eagerly await, the production for the second season of Squid Game will begin later this year
