Kim Hye Ja has canceled her scheduled appearance at a stage greeting event for the upcoming film Still Shining.

The film’s team announced the cancellation on October 15th, just two hours before the press screening was scheduled to take place. The team cited “unavoidable circumstances” and asked for the public’s understanding.

Kim was originally scheduled to greet the audience before the screening. A press conference was also planned afterward, with director Park Seo Kyung and cast members Song Il Kook, Choi Ju Eun, Moon Seong Hyun, Cha Mi Kyeong and Cho Seong Ha in attendance. Kim was not included on the list of participants.

The cancellation prompted concern among fans, especially after Star Today reported that Kim had been feeling unwell. The actress had already sparked health concerns during the Busan International Film Festival, where she was seen walking slowly with assistance and covering her mouth while coughing. Photos and videos from the event led some netizens to ask whether she was unwell and express hopes for her recovery.

However, the film’s distributor reassured fans that Kim had only mild cold symptoms.

Still Shining is set to premiere in South Korea on October 21st. The film follows Soon Ok (played by Kim Hye Ja), who reunites with her longtime best friend after 60 years, only to discover that her friend is losing her memory. Together, the two women try to hold on to the precious memories of their past.

The film marks Kim’s return to the big screen after nine years, following her appearance in Hope.

Affectionately known as “the nation’s mother” in South Korea, Kim remains one of the country’s most respected actresses. She has taken on a wide range of leading roles, from a warm and caring mother in the drama Country Diaries to a mother consumed by a disturbing form of maternal love in the film Mother.
