Kong Hyo Jin is heading back to MBC for the first time in 15 years with the network’s upcoming Friday-Saturday drama A Bona Fide Killer.
Set to premiere in July, the action-comedy follows Yoo Bo Na, a working mom trying to balance family life with a highly unusual second job: eliminating criminals who have escaped justice.
Kong Hyo Jin stars as Yoo Bo Na, a sales team manager at an electronics company and a legendary sniper known as “Kingfisher.” By day, she’s a devoted wife and mother to a 4-year-old daughter. By night, she’s a one-shot assassin targeting society’s worst offenders. After returning from three years of parental leave, Bo Na finds herself juggling family responsibilities and dangerous missions.
The role marks Kong Hyo Jin’s return to MBC since The Greatest Love in 2011 and promises a very different side of the actress.
Jung Jun Won plays Bo Na’s doting husband, Kwon Tae Sung, an investigative reporter known for throwing himself headfirst into injustice. Once a journalist assigned to cover Kingfisher, he gradually begins uncovering the truth behind the mysterious vigilante.
Lee Sang Yi stars as Lee Dong Jin, a determined detective who is convinced that capturing Kingfisher is the key to delivering justice. His relentless pursuit is expected to fuel much of the drama’s tension.
Rounding out the cast is Sung Dong Il as Kim Bong Pal, Bo Na’s team leader at work and a trusted ally with more skills than he initially lets on.
“Not only will viewers see a career-defining transformation from Kong Hyo Jin, but Jung Jun Won, Lee Sang Yi and Sung Dong Il will each bring their own distinctive charm to the series,” the production team said. “With its fresh mix of family comedy and action-packed crime drama, we hope to deliver a truly satisfying viewing experience.”
