Kim Soo Hyun’s hit drama My Love from the Star is set to air in South America for the first time.
On May 2nd, Brazil’s largest private broadcaster SBT will begin airing My Love from the Star. This marks the show’s official debut in South America, 11 years after it first premiered in Korea in 2013.
SBT commented on the airing, saying, “There’s been an explosive surge in demand for Korean pop culture content in Brazil,” and revealed they’ve created a dedicated programming block called the “Asian Production Line.” My Love from the Star has been chosen to kick off this special lineup.
Following the announcement, Kim Soo Hyun’s fans left welcoming messages on SBT’s official website and social media. Many are also promoting the show by creating and sharing related content online.
In addition to Brazil, the drama is also making headlines in Taiwan as one of the Korean Wave-focused channels recently decided to re-air the series.
Meanwhile, Kim Soo Hyun has faced controversy amid allegations that he dated the late Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor. The scandal has led to a lawsuit seeking the return of endorsement fees and damages totaling around 5.8 billion KRW ($4.2 million).
With My Love from the Star gaining renewed popularity abroad, many are watching closely to see whether Kim Soo Hyun will use this overseas momentum to make his comeback on the international stage rather than in Korea.
