The first Monday in May brought fashion’s most dazzling red carpet back to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with K-pop royalty making major waves among Hollywood’s elite at this year’s style spectacular.

While co-chairs Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton commanded attention, though LeBron James had to bow out due to a late-season knee injury, it was the stunning appearances by BLACKPINK members Rosé, Jennie and Lisa that sent social media into overdrive.

The K-pop superstars arrived in show-stopping ensembles that perfectly interpreted the night’s “Tailored for You” dress code, with each member putting their own spin on the exhibition’s exploration of Black dandyism and sartorial excellence.

Not to be outdone, SEVENTEEN’s S. Coups made his Met Gala debut in a groundbreaking look that cemented K-pop’s growing influence. His arrival alongside stars like Tyla, Doechii, André 3000, Usher, and Janelle Monáe (who served on the costume institute benefit host committee) underscored the global impact of this year’s theme: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

This year’s exhibition draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, placing a spotlight on menswear with what Vogue describes as an open-ended dress code “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation” while honoring Black dandyism’s profound influence on fashion history.
