Jang Dong Ju, who announced his retirement from acting earlier this year, is starting a new chapter as an entertainment executive. He has founded Woosun Entertainment, an agency specializing in actor management, and is reportedly in talks to sign a well-known actor identified only as “J.”
Star News reported on October 12th that Jang Dong Ju, now the CEO of Woosun Entertainment, is negotiating an exclusive contract with J. The two reportedly have a close personal relationship, and negotiations are said to be nearing the final stage.
J is an established actor known for leading roles in popular dramas. The actor has also appeared in films and variety shows, demonstrating versatility beyond scripted roles. All eyes are now on whether Jang can bring J on board and officially launch his actor management business.
Jang made headlines in May when he abruptly announced his retirement from acting. At the time, he explained that he had repaid more than 3 billion won ($2.3 million) of the roughly 4 billion won ($3 million) in debt he incurred after being targeted by mobile phone hackers who threatened him. However, about 800 million won ($600,000) remained unpaid, making it difficult for him to continue acting as usual.
Since then, Jang has shifted his focus to content creation and business. He also announced that he would devote himself fully to preparing Woosun Group for an initial public offering (IPO). Reports say he has received extensive business and management training from his father, Jang Myung Cheon, chairman of the group, who has run World General Construction for decades.
As part of its business expansion, Woosun Group has established Woosun Entertainment, a subsidiary focused on managing actors. The agency aims to discover and develop talent, support artists’ activities, and manage their careers through a structured system.
Woosun Entertainment plans to build long-term partnerships with its actors, developing growth strategies tailored to each individual’s strengths and potential. Rather than focusing solely on short-term projects, the company aims to help its artists build lasting careers and strengthen their competitiveness in the industry.
The agency also plans to gradually expand its artists’ opportunities through drama production, content creation, and partnerships across different industries.
As CEO, Jang will draw on his experience as an actor to connect the creative side of the entertainment industry with business management. Woosun Entertainment aims to use the group’s existing business resources to establish itself as a competitive player in actor management, while the new venture will also help diversify Woosun Group’s business portfolio.
A representative from Woosun Entertainment said, “It’s important to recognize each actor’s unique appeal and abilities and turn their potential into real growth. Through systematic management and long-term artist development, we aim to become a trusted agency specializing in actors.”
