Cha Jung Won showed off a surprisingly funny side in her first variety show appearance.
The actress appeared on the July 13 episode of SBS’ Uh, but Like, Seriously!, where she visited Suji’s guesthouse.
Introduced as a style icon among people in their 20s and 30s, Cha was quickly teased about her relationship with actor Ha Jung Woo, leaving her red-faced and struggling to get her words out.
The teasing continued when Ha’s recently launched wine came up.
“Does he own a winery, or just the wine?” Lee asked.
“Just the wine. The winery is the goal,” Cha replied.
Cha also revealed she has been friends with singer and actor Jung Yong Hwa since their first year of high school.
“Yong Hwa had zero interest in becoming a celebrity, and I wanted it so badly,” she recalled. “I asked him to go to an acting academy in Seomyeon, Busan with me, and he was like, ‘Celebrity? Forget that. Let’s study hard and become English teachers.'”
Then one day, Jung suddenly stopped answering her calls. A friend from his school told Cha that someone from Seoul had come and taken him away.
“I thought, ‘This punk said he wasn’t interested, and now he’s running off to Seoul by himself?'” she joked.
When she finally got him on the phone, Jung apologized and explained that someone from the agency had convinced him to become a trainee.
Cha admitted the real heartbreak was not his “betrayal.”
“I was more upset that no agency people came to my school,” she said, drawing laughs.
But seeing Jung make his debut ultimately lit a fire under her.
“I remember thinking, ‘Wow, what is this?’ I was happy to see him and thought he looked so cool,” she said. “Then I felt this heat rise up in my chest.”
