Kwon Jin Young, the CEO of Hook Entertainment, has been given a suspended prison sentence for embezzling billions of won from the company for personal use.
The Seoul Southern District Court sentenced Kwon to two years in prison, but the sentence is suspended for four years. She was found guilty of embezzling money and violating trust laws related to economic crimes.
The court explained that misusing company funds is unacceptable, even if it’s a small company, as it can harm others involved. However, they took into account that Kwon admitted to the charges and repaid the stolen money.
Kwon was accused of using about 4 billion won ($2.6 million) of Hook Entertainment’s funds for personal expenses, like buying furniture and paying insurance premiums, from 2012 to 2022.
She’s also facing charges for illegally obtaining sleeping pills through an employee.
She had a legal dispute with Lee Seung Gi, who worked with Hook Entertainment for 18 years, over unpaid settlement money.
