Jun Ji Hyun is officially back on the big screen for the first time in 11 years—and she’s taking on a powerful new role.
Director Yeon Sang Ho’s upcoming film Colony has unveiled its first character stills of Jun Ji Hyun as Kwon Se Jung, a biotechnology researcher and the leader of a group of survivors.
Set inside a quarantined building during a mysterious outbreak, Colony follows a group of isolated survivors as they struggle to stay alive against infected individuals who evolve in unpredictable yet terrifying ways. At the center is Kwon Se Jung, who uses her scientific expertise to analyze the infection’s behavior and mutation patterns while guiding others toward survival and escape.
The newly released stills capture her in a range of tense moments—from moving forward with quiet determination to freezing in shock while tracking the infected, and even facing them in suffocatingly close encounters.
Kwon Se Jung is a character driven by her strong sense of justice. After losing her university position due to her inability to overlook wrongdoing, she ends up trapped in the Dungwoori Building while attending a conference—a trip suggested by her ex-husband Han Gyu Sung (Go Soo), who had been trying to help her find a new job.
Known for her versatility and screen presence across projects like The Thieves, The Berlin File, Assassination, My Love from the Star, Legend of the Blue Sea, and Kingdom: Ashin of the North, Jun Ji Hyun is expected to once again deliver a standout performance.
Speaking about her decision to return with Colony, she shared, “I’ve always been a huge fan of director Yeon Sang Ho, and more than anything, the tight, compelling script really drew me in.”
Director Yeon Sang Ho also praised her performance, saying, “Her ability to immerse herself in the moment was incredible. It really reminded me why she’s such a seasoned actress.”
Colony is set to hit theaters in May 2026.
