Ryeoun and Keum Sae Rok are sharing the unexpected way their story began.
The Bloody Flower co-stars appeared on the Lunar New Year special of Ha Ji Young’s YouTube content, released on February 18th, where they opened up about their past connection.
Ryeoun revealed he first met Keum Sae Rok when he was still in high school. “I went to an acting academy to prepare for college, and Keum Sae Rok was an assistant teacher there,” he said. Keum Sae Rok added, “I was working a part-time job as an assistant, and Ryeoun came in as a senior. It’s amazing we grew up and ended up acting together.”
They also teased their roles in Bloody Flower. Ryeoun plays Lee Woo Gyeom, a man who can cure incurable diseases but is also a serial killer who has murdered 17 people. “It felt like a big responsibility, but I want to keep challenging myself,” he said. Keum Sae Rok, who plays prosecutor Cha Yi Yeon, said, “She’s competitive and driven, but she grows as she encounters Lee Woo Gyeom.”
Asked how they handle difficult on-set feedback, Ryeoun said, “Feedback can be helpful, but saying ‘just match me no matter what’ is wrong.” Keum Sae Rok chimed in, “Sometimes people say that because they want to do well but don’t have the space to communicate properly. I also need to communicate more openly.”
The pair also bonded over their love of history content. Keum Sae Rok said she often falls asleep listening to Naked History and hopes to appear on it someday. Ryeoun, inspired by his father, shared his love for historical films like The Admiral: Roaring Currents and Hansan: Rising Dragon—both directed by Kim Han Min, joking, “Sir, I can ride horses and use a sword well. I’d be grateful even for a small role.”
Keeping with the holiday spirit, they also shared the most dreaded Lunar New Year questions: “When are you getting married?” and “Have you gained weight?” Ryeoun added with a laugh that he used to run away from younger cousins who wanted him to play with them.
