Hwang Jung Eum is now facing a new legal crisis involving her former agency.

According to reports on February 13th, Hwang’s former management, Y1 Entertainment, has filed for a preliminary seizure on her luxury residence in Itaewon. The Seoul Central District Court granted the request on February 10th

The agency is claiming 282 million won ($212,000), likely related to disputes over her exclusive contract, which ended last November. The property in question is a detached house Hwang purchased in 2020 for approximately 4.6 billion won ($3.4 million).

In a brief statement, Y1 Entertainment acknowledged the legal action but declined to elaborate. “We respect the court’s decision regarding the ongoing legal procedures,” the agency said. “However, due to the potential impact on the judicial process, we cannot confirm specific details at this stage.”

Tensions between the two parties have been brewing. Previously, it was revealed that Hwang’s new one-person agency, Hunminjeongeum Entertainment, had been operating without the mandatory government registration for entertainment businesses. At the time, Y1 Entertainment stated, “We notified Hwang Jung Eum of the termination of her exclusive contract on November 27, 2025. We have no involvement or responsibility regarding her current activities.”

This legal battle adds to a tumultuous period for the actress. Last year, Hwang was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for four years, for embezzling over 4.3 billion won ($3.2 million) from her own company funds.

She used the money to invest in cryptocurrency and pay personal taxes, according to reports. She admitted to all charges and repaid the full amount before the ruling became final.
