The highly anticipated chemistry between superstars IU and Byeon Woo Seok has finally been revealed.
MBC released photos and details from the first script reading of Perfect Crown, where the director, writer and star-studded cast gathered to kick off production. The atmosphere was reportedly electric, filled with ambitious pledges and laughter.
The cast shared their excitement without holding back. IU kicked things off by saying, “I’ll work hard so Perfect Crown can dominate the drama scene in 2026.”
Her co-stars joined in with bold promises. Byeon Woo Seok said he would “shake up the world,” while Noh Sang Hyun joked, “I’ll shake up the universe.” Gong Seung Yeon added that she hopes to help create a fun and positive atmosphere on set.
The drama is set in a fictional modern-day South Korea that operates under a constitutional monarchy.
IU plays Seong Hee Ju, a confident chaebol heiress who is incredibly wealthy but lacks a high social title. She immediately caught attention with her bold presence and playful gestures. During a key scene where her character proposes to the prince to improve her standing, IU added a cheeky wink that had the cast laughing.
Byeon Woo Seok plays Grand Prince Yi An, a royal with nothing but his title. He showed a strong princely presence with his deep voice and calm manner, then revealed his range by gently shifting his tone to convey the character’s hidden emotions when he meets Hee Ju.
The chemistry between the two leads stole the show. Playing partners in a ‘contract marriage,’ IU and Byeon matched each other’s energy perfectly, using eye contact and great timing to bring their romance to life.
Noh Sang Hyun brings energy to the role of Min Jung Woo, the Prime Minister of South Korea. He showcased his versatility, playing a friendly mentor to IU and a loyal best friend to Prince Byeon Woo Seok.
Gong Seung Yeon added tension to the room as Yoon Yi Rang, a woman destined to be queen. With perfect elegance, she disappeared into the role, maintaining her poise even during heated scenes with the prince.
With its mix of romance, politics, and humor, Perfect Crown is generating massive anticipation. The series is scheduled to premiere this April.
