The man accused of a violent home invasion at the residence of Nana appeared in court today, denying key charges and claiming he was the one assaulted.
The Uijeongbu District Court held the first public trial on January 20th for the suspect, a man in his 30s who has been indicted and detained on charges of robbery and injury. He is accused of breaking into Nana’s home in Guri City early on November 15th of last year, threatening the star and her mother for money.
Suspect Claims “Simple Theft”
Prosecutors said that Nana and her mother fought off an intruder after a struggle, and both were seriously injured, needing more than a month to recover. They submitted medical records to show the injuries.
The suspect’s lawyer disagreed with the charges. “He didn’t plan to rob anyone,” the lawyer said. “He thought the house was empty and only meant to steal something.” They also said he didn’t have a weapon.
The suspect told the court, “I was attacked inside the house.” He claimed that Nana used a weapon against him and denied strangling her mother during the fight.
Judge Rebukes the Suspect
The court pushed back against the argument. The judge asked, “If someone broke into your home and this happened, would you just stay still?” —urging him to consider the incident from the victims’ perspective. Nana and her mother were formally recognized as witnesses for upcoming proceedings.
Failed Countersuit
This follows news that the suspect had previously filed a countersuit against Nana from jail, accusing her of attempted murder. Police, however, ruled her actions were clear self-defense and declined to forward charges against the actress.
The next hearing is scheduled for March 10th.
