A bold cast, a risky story, and two of Korea’s most talked-about actresses at the center—Project Y is already sparking conversation.

A press screening for Project Y was held in Seoul on January 8th, attended by director Lee Hwan and cast members Han So Hee and Jeon Jong Seo, along with Kim Shin Rock, Jung Young Ju, Lee Jae Kyoon, YooA, and Kim Sung Cheol.

Lee Hwan was unequivocal about his casting. “They were irreplaceable,” he said. “Without Han So Hee and Jeon Jong Seo, this film could not have begun—or been finished.” He added that both actresses agreed to join immediately, praising their ability to draw in audiences while delivering emotional twists that feel earned.

Han So Hee stars as Mi Sun, a woman chasing an ordinary life until she’s pushed to the edge. “She’s outwardly strong but deeply fragile,” Han said. “That contradiction felt very human.” She also cited her co-star as a deciding factor, adding, “Leading a film with someone my age like Jeon Jong Seo felt right. Once I heard the full cast, I knew I had to do it.”

Jeon Jong Seo plays Do Gyeong, a skilled driver racing toward a single shot at escape. “What attracted me most was that it’s a buddy film,” she said. “There were so many layers hidden in the character.” She also noted that the genre itself made the project special. “Roles like this are rare for women, which made it even more meaningful.”

Their chemistry stood out to fellow cast members. Kim Shin Rock called watching the two share a frame “exhilarating,” while Jung Young Ju added, “There were moments when I thought their acting has been seriously underrated.”

Looking back on filming, Han described an intense shoot. “We were constantly shooting,” she said. “Now that we’re here talking about it, it finally feels real.” One scene in particular stayed with her: “At the end, the two friends talk about how they tried to change their lives in immature ways, and what comes next for them.” Jeon summed it up simply: “It’s a film made from desperate hearts in the cold. Every scene stayed with me. I’m really curious how audiences will react.”

With its risky premise and two fearless leads, Project Y is positioning itself as one of the year’s most talked-about Korean films—and it hits theaters on January 21st.
