The Confidential Assignment franchise may be gearing up for a return.
According to production company JK Film, work is underway on a third installment, with the script now in its final stages. “We are preparing for production, and the script development is nearing completion. We are planning to reach out to the original cast,” a representative shared on April 1st.
The action-comedy series follows North Korean detective Lim Cheol Ryung (played by Hyun Bin) and South Korean detective Kang Jin Tae (Yoo Hae Jin), as they team up for a cross-border investigation.
The first film, released in 2017, drew more than 7.8 million moviegoers, while its sequel Confidential Assignment 2: International followed in 2022 with 6.9 million admissions, cementing the franchise’s box office success.
With a third film—tentatively titled Confidential Assignment: The Final—now in development, attention is turning to whether Hyun Bin, Yoo Hae Jin and YoonA will reprise their roles. Coordinating the actors’ schedules is expected to be a key factor.
The production is aiming to begin filming next year.
JK Film is also currently working on several other projects, including a sequel to Ode to My Father and a taekwondo-themed film titled Belladonna (literal title).
