Director Hong Eui Jeong, best known for the critically acclaimed Voice of Silence, is returning with a new film. Her latest project, Vengeful Spirit (working title), has finalized its cast and officially began filming on November 17th.

Vengeful Spirit follows Yoon Ha, a young woman who becomes a ghost after an unjust death, and a goblin who has dreamed of becoming human for 400 years. Together, they embark on a dangerous mission to save Yoon Ha’s younger sibling. The film marks Hong Eui Jeong’s first feature since Voice of Silence, which earned her Best New Director awards at both the Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Baeksang Arts Awards.

Kim Yoo Jung stars as Yoon Ha, a ghost who refuses to leave the human world as she fights to protect her sibling, signaling a bold new turn for the actress. Park Ji Hwan, widely loved for his role in The Roundup franchise, plays the centuries-old goblin, bringing unexpected chemistry to the story.

Veteran actress Cho Yeo Jeong joins the cast as Ju Bo, a shaman who hunts Yoon Ha, adding tension as she bridges the worlds of the living and the dead. The ensemble is rounded out by Ji Il Joo and Baek Hyun Jin, alongside Yoo Jae Myung, who reunites with director Hong Eui Jeong following Voice of Silence.

Meanwhile, Vengeful Spirit is led by SOLAIRE Partners, a cultural content investment firm with assets under management of 145.5 billion KRW (approx. 98 million USD), known for backing films such as Sleep, Pilot, 12.12: The Day, and Exhuma. The film also marks kt Studio Genie’s first fully backed original project, with the company participating across co-production, distribution, and marketing as it ramps up its full-scale push into the film business.
