Jung Jun Won sat down for a wrap-up interview and shared his thoughts on starring opposite Go Youn Jung in the hit medical drama Resident Playbook.
In this spin-off of Hospital Playlist, Jung Jun Won played Goo Do Won, a fourth-year OB-GYN resident whose heart-fluttering romance with Oh Yi Young (Go Yoon Jung) painted viewers’ screens pink with their undeniable chemistry.
Just like Go Youn Jung said in her interview, Jung admitted he didn’t expect their on-screen pairing—affectionately dubbed the “OhGoo Couple”—to take off quite like it did. “Our drama focuses on the growth of young residents, so I thought that would be the main draw,” he said. “I was totally surprised people got so invested in our romance.”
Jung revealed that his first reaction to learning that Go was his romantic counterpart was anxiety. “I was worried from the start,” he confessed. “I wasn’t sure we’d be able to convince the audience. Goo Do Won, as written in the script, kind of feels like a fantasy—too perfect. But I figured if I could really sell it, maybe people would buy in.”
And buy in they did. Before the show aired, Jung’s Instagram had just over 3,000 followers. But now that number has skyrocketed to over 400,000. “I check it every day and smile,” he laughed.
The actor shared that he kept a close eye on fan feedback, being well aware of the mixed responses to his character in the early episodes. “What really stood out were the comments saying things like, ‘The more I watch, the more I’m convinced.’ I expected some negativity—it’s natural. But when you see those for yourself, they really hit you in the gut,” he added with a wry smile.
Still, he took it all in stride. “Let’s be real—Go Youn Jung is almost unreal. She’s beautiful in a way that feels like a work of art. The story is about her falling for me? That’s not something that would ever happen in real life, so I understood the skepticism.”
When asked if he paid extra attention to his appearance for the role, Jung kept it real. “I mean, what difference would it make? I did what I could. But some battles you just don’t win,” he joked. “So I focused on acting. And honestly, Go Youn Jung’s acting was incredible—she’s the one who probably brought the skeptics around. I’m genuinely grateful.”
