YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute, also known as HoverLab Inc., has released additional photos and videos with metadata supporting claims that Kim Soo Hyun dated the late Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor.
On March 31st, Garosero Research Institute uploaded a video claiming that Kim Soo Hyun visited the late Kim Sae Ron’s home to eat spicy braised chicken while on leave from military service. In the video, Kim Soo Hyun has a short haircut and is dressed casually. He takes a bite of the chicken and engages in casual conversation with Kim Sae Ron. What appear to be alcohol bottles are also visible in the background.
When Kim Sae Ron asks how it tastes, Kim Soo Hyun responds, “Yes, for now…” before standing up after hearing a noise from an appliance. He then playfully says, “When one speaks of chicken, one must understand that it is…” which makes Kim Sae Ron burst into laughter. The last modified date on the video was June 20th, 2018, at which time Kim Sae Ron had not yet turned 18 and was still legally a minor at 17 (international age). The “modified date” refers to the last date and time a file, photo, or video was edited or saved on a device.
Garosero Research Institute commented, “This video is from when Kim Sae Ron was in her second year of high school (18 years old),” adding, “Didn’t you say you didn’t meet or date Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor? Yet here you are, on military leave at 11:20 PM, eating chicken with soju at Kim Sae Ron’s place. What happened? The next video shows Kim Soo Hyun singing for Kim Sae Ron at 1 AM.” They then released an additional video of him singing.
An old news article confirming Kim Soo Hyun’s military leave resurfaced. Published on June 27, 2018, the article reported that he was “immersed in gaming at a PC café while on military leave.” A netizen who shared the article wrote, “This confirms that Kim Soo Hyun was actually on military leave when the chicken video was filmed.”

The family of the late Kim Sae Ron had previously disclosed KakaoTalk conversations from 2016 between her and Kim Soo Hyun, and the YouTube channel also revealed the metadata of a photo from those materials. The photo, showing Kim Sae Ron eating a snack, was taken on December 12th, 2015, and matches the outfit she wore that day as the MC of MBC’s Music Core. In the reconstructed KakaoTalk conversation, Kim Soo Hyun had responded to the photo, saying, “Seriously, isn’t she just too cute?”
On the same day, Kim Soo Hyun held a press conference and directly denied various allegations, stating, “I did not date the deceased when she was a minor. Furthermore, it is not true that her tragic decision was due to me ignoring her or that my agency pressured her over debts.” Kim Soo Hyun has filed criminal defamation charges against the late Kim Sae Ron’s family, Garosero Research Institute’s operator Kim Se Ui, and others for spreading false information. He has also initiated a civil lawsuit seeking 12 billion won ($8.1 million) in damages for property losses and penalties.
